Sydney Blu
Sydney Blu has built one of the most respected careers in electronic music. With beginnings in Toronto, Canada, performing at The Guverment, Footwork Nightclub, and within the LGBTQ2S+ community, Sydney Blu has become one of the most respected and trailblazing women in underground electronic music. Her breakout release “Give It Up For Me” on Mau5trap made history as the first track by a solo female producer to reach the Top 10 on Beatport’s Overall Chart, later climbing to #1 where it remained for over three months. More than a decade later, the record returned to #1 again with a fresh techno remix, cementing its place as one of the defining underground dance records of its era.
Now touring the globe and living life through music, Sydney founded her imprint Blu Music in 2009, built on a foundation of dancefloor rich house and techno, before expanding the brand with the launch of the legendary Blu Party in 2010.
Sydney has released music on some of the most recognized labels in the industry, including Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound, HE.SHE.THEY, Desert Hearts Records, Deadmau5’s Mau5trap, Universal Music, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode & Truesoul, Yousef’s Circus Recordings, Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records, Katermukke, and more. With multiple Top 10 records since then, Sydney continues to chart year after year, including the recent “Mind Games” on Knee Deep in Sound, premiered by Billboard Magazine.
Beyond her success as a producer, Sydney has maintained a relentless touring schedule as a DJ. 2025 marked one of her most successful touring years to date, performing around the world with her Change the Beat showcases in cities such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Brooklyn, culminating in a new partnership with Universal Music at Amsterdam Dance Event. Her worldwide performances have taken her to Output (Brooklyn), Stereo (Montreal), Space (Miami & Ibiza), Avalon, Sound and Exchange (Los Angeles), CODA (Toronto), Sisyphos (Berlin), Panama (Amsterdam), and many more. In November 2011, she performed at the Rogers Centre in Toronto for Deadmau5’s Meowingtons Hax Tour, playing in front of 35,000 fans, the largest solo headlining dance event in Canadian history. Since then, she has headlined festivals and clubs worldwide, including Electric Island (Toronto), The BPM Festival (Costa Rica & Mexico), Digital Dreams (Toronto), Evolve Festival (Halifax), Burning Man, Ultra Music Festival (Miami), and performances across Europe, South America, Asia, Tunisia, and Egypt.
In late 2021, Sydney launched the nonprofit organization Change the Beat, in partnership with Native Instruments, Beatport and a roster of A list dance labels. The initiative empowers electronic music artists, producers, and DJs through education, mentorship, workshops, and networking opportunities, focusing on women and underrepresented voices. Over the past two years, Change the Beat has signed over 100 female and gender expansive artists while mentoring them on their production journeys. To support this mission, it has hosted remix competitions with major labels such as Mau5trap, Drumcode, Insomniac, HE.SHE.THEY., Anjunadeep, Hospital, Toolroom, Club Sweat, Realm (Gorgon City), Nervous, Desert Hearts, Poker Flat, Rawthentic, and Circus Recordings. In October 2023, Change the Beat was selected as a recipient of The Beatport Parity Fund, marking the next stage of its mission, expanding its global reach through showcases and club events featuring artists such as Nicole Moudaber, Eli & Fur, Maya Jane Coles, and Oona Dahl.
2025 also saw the relaunch of her Blu Music imprint with the uplifting house single “This Song is 4 You”, followed by the release of her first new Mau5trap single since 2008, “Never Let Me Down” featuring Erika Perry. Released on February 12, 2026, the record is a powerful nod to Depeche Mode’s classic of the same name, blending emotional nostalgia with her modern production edge.
Looking ahead, Sydney is launching a series of shows with Oona Dahl, a collaboration born from years of shared stages, mutual respect, and a deep love for the craft, now evolving into a new chapter of music and touring together.
One of Sydney Blu’s greatest accomplishments to date has been her successful advocacy for a new category at Canada’s largest music awards, The JUNO Awards, “Underground Dance Single of the Year.” The category was officially accepted in June 2021 and debuted in 2022, with Sydney serving as its Chair. During the pandemic, she completed her second full length artist album CONVICTION (March 2021), which amassed over one million streams, secured multiple chart placements on Beatport, and earned a JUNO nomination for Electronic Album of the Year.
With no signs of slowing down, Sydney Blu continues to push boundaries in electronic music through her releases, performances, collaborations, and unwavering advocacy for inclusivity on the dance floor.
